Accessibility Guide

We welcome all our guests to No.9 Putsborough and the information below is provided to help you assess the accessibility of the apartment, communal facilities and surrounding area. No.9 Putsborough is not adapted for disabled requirements. If you have any accessibility requirements or restricted mobility, please review this guide carefully and contact us with any questions before booking so that you can determine whether the apartment is suitable for your individual needs.

  1. Arriving
    • By car you can only access the car park via Sandy Lane.
    • The height restriction at the entrance to the car park is 2.4m.
    • The underground car park is level and concreted and is well lit.
    • There are no accessible parking bays available and the parking bay allocated cannot be swapped or changed at request.
    • There is no internal stair access directly from the underground car park to the apartment block. Normal access to the apartment from the car park is via the lift, as detailed below.
    • There are external steps to the car park from Beach Road by the side of the swimming pool. There are internal steps from the car park down to the Leisure Suite Facilities.
  2. Access to the Apartment
    • No.9 Putsborough is a second-floor (top-floor) apartment. Normal access from the underground car park to the apartment level is via a lift.
    • The apartment is self check-in. We provide an easy-to-follow digital guide showing how to locate the key safe room and find the apartment.
    • From the allocated parking bay in the underground car park, there is a level walk of approximately 15m to the access door (operated by a key fob), from where the lift provides access to the apartment level. While we have never experienced any issues, lifts are mechanical and availability cannot be absolutely guaranteed at all times.
    • In the unlikely event that the lift is not operating, access would involve two flights of stairs from the underground car park up to the leisure deck, a short walk across the deck, and then four flights up to the top floor to reach the apartment. Guests who would be unable to use the stairs if the lift were unavailable should take this into consideration when assessing whether the apartment is suitable for their individual requirements. Please note, no compensation will be offered in the event of the failure of any lift during your stay.
    • On exiting the lift, double doors lead to a wide, well-lit corridor. The private entrance to No.9 is at the end of the corridor.
    • Please note children must be supervised at all times when using the lift.
  3. The Apartment
    • The front door is 57cm wide and this doorway goes straight into the hallway of the apartment.
    • The apartment is not specifically adapted for disabled access and requires mobility within the accommodation.
    • The open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area, bedrooms and family bathroom all lead off the hallway. Internal doorway widths are approximately 84cm.
    • The apartment is all on one level and there are no internal stairs.
    • The open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area and hallway have wood-effect vinyl flooring with rugs.
    • Both bedrooms are carpeted. There is limited free floor space around the beds.
    • Both bathrooms have ceramic tiled floors.
    • The lounge has a three-seater corner sofa, armchair and side tables. A sliding patio door leads onto the private balcony, which is accessed via a small step. The balcony doorway is approximately 82cm wide.
    • The kitchen has a low-level oven with an induction hob. Kitchen worktops and units are standard height.
    • The bathrooms are not adapted for disabled access. The en-suite has a shower with a step up into the shower tray and no handrails. The main bathroom has a bath with a shower over and no handrails. There are two WCs. Floor space within both bathrooms is limited. The bathroom door locks cannot be released from outside in an emergency.
    • Most electrical sockets throughout the apartment are at floor level. The TV sockets in the bedrooms are wall-mounted at approximately head height.
    • In the event of a fire, the evacuation route includes one flight of internal stairs to the outside gravelled area, followed by the route to the assembly point. The lift must not be used during a fire evacuation.
  4. The Leisure Facilities
    • Guest Services, the games room and leisure facilities can be accessed from the front of the complex on Beach Road via a ramp from the pavement.
    • Please note that steps are required to access both the swimming pool and the gym.
    • Accessible toilets with changing facilities are located within the main reception area.
    • The swimming pool has two entry points: a ladder and tiled graduated steps into the water. There is no pool hoist. There is no lifeguard on duty; guests use the pool at their own risk.
    • Children must be supervised at all times while using the on-site facilities.
  5. Accessibility around Woolacombe
    • Woolacombe is a hilly coastal village and routes around the village include slopes and gradients. Although No.9 Putsborough is centrally located and only a few minutes’ walk from Woolacombe Beach, the routes to and from the beach are not completely level. The route via Sandy Lane has a steeper gradient, while the route through the village via Beach Road has a gentler incline.
    • Access onto the main beach is available via paved ramps/slipways, although the beach itself is naturally sandy and conditions underfoot will vary.
    • Temporary access information (Summer 2026): Due to the redevelopment of The Beachcomber at Woolacombe Beach, some usual pedestrian access routes around the main beachfront are currently affected by construction works. Please check current local access arrangements before setting out.
    • To help you access the beach, Woolacombe Tourist Information Centre have some mobility equipment for hire.
    • The National Trust have produced accessibility guides for both Woolacombe and Mortehoe. These useful documents detail parking, toilets, beach access and more.
    • A Shopmobility service operates in Barnstaple (approximately 13 miles from Woolacombe), offering mobility equipment including scooters and wheelchairs.
